Competitive Analysis

My competitive analysis was focused on three of the more well-known book-buying and e-library apps and websites on the market: Book of the Month, AbeBooks, and Thriftbooks. I went through each of these three apps/websites as if I were a new user, and took note of my experiences with various pain and pleasure points of their user interfaces.

Personas

The personas Mark and Dana were created using the results of a survey conducted via Google Forms in which participants were asked about their reading habits, the app(s) they currently use to find books, and a thorough variety of questions regarding personal demographics. Through this process, we were able to identify pain and pleasure points for an array of different kinds of users.

Brand Development and Usability Test

In the design phase, I developed a mood board, refined style guide (including color palette, typography, and app logo) to establish a strong visual identity for the client and a foundation for my design process. The usability test results gave me insights into what aspects of my initial design worked and what didn't. This information was crucial for developing an effective design that met the project brief and addressed/identified problems from the outset of the process.
